In conjunction with Dr. Alisa Cooper, English faculty member from Glendale Community College, MCLI supports various faculty development offerings in podcasting and videocasting (or vodcasting) for teaching and learning.

A podcast is a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers. Though the same content may also be made available by direct download or streaming, a podcast is distinguished from other digital-media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added. Like the term broadcast, podcast can refer either to the series of content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also called podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. Learnshops

• Workshop 1: Podcasting Theory & Practice: How Can iTunes U Help You?- September 10

This workshop will be an informational session/discussion about the theory and practice of podcasting in education. We will share the information we have presented on the wiki and lead the discussion. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what podcasting is, how it can be and is used in education, and what are the implications for teaching and learning. We will also discuss our podcasting option - iTunes U in Maricopa.

• Workshop 2:  Enhancing a Course with Audio and Audio Podcasts - September 17 
  

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create audio using Audacity and Garageband. Participants will learn tips for creating the best quality audio, choosing the best optimal equipment (mics, recorders), and converting audio to optimal file size for use in a CMS or podcast on the web.

• Workshop 3:  Creating a Podcasting: Production and Distribution - September 24 
  

To provide a hands-on experience to develop a podcast by uploading files to a server, setting up a blog, and burning the RSS feed using Feedburner. The use of iTunes U as an alternative method of podcasting will also be provided. This event will also include podcasting teaching and learning applications, podcasting resources and readings, and a brief review of copyright issues in podcasting.
